Setting reasonable fitness goals is one of the most important steps you will take during an exercise program. Goals will drive a plan toward a desired result and gives you a way to measure your progress. Without goals, you’re fitness plan will probably be much less effective than it would be otherwise.

You will have many goals in an exercise program, because there’s a lot to accomplish. As you focus on your body and determine your fitness needs, you’ll discover that a single goal is not going to be motivating enough to meet your needs. In addition, your goals have a lot to take into consideration. Reasonable goals are goals that are attainable. That doesn’t mean they are easy to reach. In fact, a well devised goal will force you to strive to do better all the time through effort.

An online fitness coach can help you develop short and long term reasonable fitness goals that will motivate you to progress in each defined area. For example, if heart disease runs in your family, you may want a goal that includes reducing your body fat. If you are athlete who has hit a plateau, you may want a goal that addresses the need for increased speed and endurance. Each goal should be encompassing, but also directly applicable to your major health needs.
Visionary

When you consult with your online fitness coach concerning goal setting, you’ll have to become a visionary. You might envision yourself as 20 pounds lighter or having toned muscles. You might want to be able to walk a certain distance or jog for so many miles.

Of course, your online fitness coach also realizes that each person has a distinct personality and varied attitudes toward fitness. If you’re exercising only because you know it’s good for you, but not because you enjoy it, your goals will need to be set in a way that keeps you motivated with regular small steps. But if you’re an avid exerciser and push your body hard on a regular basis, your goals will probably need to be longer term and seemingly much more difficult to reach.
